VYPE Sports recently had a chance to interview and get to know a little more
about Webb City High School’s Coach Davied, who is the Cardinals’ Football Co-
Defensive Coordinator and the throwers’ coach for Track and Field.
VYPE: Tell us a little about your background. Where are you from originally and where
did you go to school?
Coach Davied: I went to school here in Webb City. Graduated in the class of 2003. I
was a member of the 2000 and 2001 state championship teams. I went on to play
Linebacker at Missouri Southern from 2003 to 2006. My dad, Tim, was a teacher, Head
Baseball Coach, and football Defensive Coordinator from 1990-2000 under
Coach Thompson and then under Coach Roderique. He later became a Principal at
Webb City until his retirement. This is my 13th year Coaching at Webb City and second
as Co-Defensive Coordinator. Prior to coming to Webb City, I was the Head Football
coach at Diamond High School from 2009-2011.
VYPE: What would you say is your coaching philosophy?
Coach Davied: To help student athletes to learn and develop on and off the field; to
help players develop Toughness and Perseverance to help them not only on the field,
but also in life after sports.
VYPE: Name two or three goals you have for yourself for this year – either coaching or
personal?
Coach Davied: To be a good role model to our players. To be the best father, husband,
son, and grandson I can be.
VYPE: I know coaches don’t have a lot of “free time,” but when you get it, what are
some of your favorite things to do?
Coach Davied: Coaching my kids, Eva (14), Eli (9), and Ethan (6). I also am an avid
fisherman.
VYPE: What is your favorite memory in coaching?
Coach Davied: Seeing the improvement some of our teams have made from day one
to the end of the season.
VYPE: What inspired you to get into teaching / coaching?
Coach Davied: Seeing the impact my father and grandfather had as coaches. Also, the
positive impact my coaches had on me made me want to get into coaching.
VYPE: What is your favorite sports movie, and why?
Coach Davied: A movie I saw recently called Touchback. The movie shows how the
choices and things we learn through sports, and through football specifically, shape us
as people.
