For Webb City senior softball standout Avrie Allen, representing her school means more than just wearing the red and white—it’s about pride, community, and connection. “What I love most about being a student-athlete is being able to represent my school and be a part of a great program at the same time,” Allen said. “With being involved in a high school team, I always know I have an amazing support system behind me and I’m so grateful for the built-in friendships I have had for the past four years from Webb City softball.”
Allen balances the intensity of competition with her academic interests. “My favorite subject has always been comm arts,” she said, noting how communication and creativity both fuel her success on and off the field.
Allen’s softball journey began early. “I have played softball ever since teeball, so I’ve been playing since I was about 5 or 6 years old,” she said. Her dedication has led her to master multiple roles on the field. “I am a pitcher and an outfielder,” she explained. “If I could play any other position, I’d either be a catcher or a shortstop.”
Facing tough opponents only fuels her competitive drive. “Some great opponents I looked forward to playing this year were Neosho, Carthage, Kickapoo and Willard,” Allen said. And in the dugout, the team’s energy is contagious—thanks to one of the younger players. “I think our freshman, Abbye Taylor, would always be the loudest in the dugout,” she said. “Abbye brought the energy every game and would cheer us on no matter what.”
At the plate, Allen keeps her mindset sharp and focused. “My thought process at the plate is to always find my pitch and to watch it all the way through,” she said. “I have a ‘Yes, Yes, No’ approach and that’s really helpful in recognizing balls and strikes as a hitter.”
Above all, one person has been her biggest influence. “The person who has had the biggest influence in my life would be my mom,” Allen said. “She’s always been my biggest fan and supporter… My mom makes me want to be a better person every day.”
Looking ahead, Allen plans to continue her education and athletic career close to home. “After I graduate, I would like to continue my education and athletic career at a two-year college in Missouri,” she said—a fitting next step for a player who’s spent her life giving her all to the game she loves.
