VYPE Sports recently had a chance to interview and get to know a little more
about Webb City High School Co-Defensive Coordinator, Coach Trey Derryberry.
VYPE: Tell us a little about your background. Where are you from originally and
where did you go to school?
Coach Derryberry: I graduated from Carthage High School and went to Pittsburg
State University. Eight years ago, I came to Webb City High.
VYPE: What is your coaching philosophy?
Coach Derryberry: I have a passion to become the absolute best teacher and coach
that I can possibly be.
VYPE: Name two or three goals you have for yourself for this year – either
coaching or personal.
Coach Derryberry: Simply give your best every single day. Don’t take things
personally. Speak with integrity.
VYPE: I know coaches don’t have a lot of “free time,” but when you get it, what
are some of your favorite things to do?
Coach Derryberry: Spending time with my wife and our three boys.
VYPE: What is your favorite memory in coaching?
Coach Derryberry: Walking off the field with your family and being in the locker
room and on the bus with the boys after a win.
VYPE: What inspired you to get into teaching / coaching?
Coach Derryberry: A love for being involved in school – in the classroom and in
sports.
VYPE: What is your favorite sports movie, and why?
Coach Derryberry: Remember the Titans. The Gettysburg scene gives me
goosebumps even after 100 times of watching the film.
