Webb City’s Brooke Hedger – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Roderique Insurance Agency LLC

By Carole King

Webb City High School Girl’s Track and Field coach Dustin Miller nominates Brooke Hedger as MVP for the 2025 Track and Field team.

“Brook is not only a versatile track and field athlete with the ability to compete at a very high level at 400, 800, 1600 and 3200, she is also a sweet, hardworking, and great teammate. She is always willing to take on the extreme work loads to help the team succeed in the post season,” Coach Miller says.

Webb City participates in the MSHSAA Class 5 in XC and Track. Brooke, an 11th grade athlete, sees her primary positions as 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter.

Webb City High School junior Brooker Hedger spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.

VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
– I would love to make it to state in the 4×8 relay, and all-state in the 1600- and 800-meter runs. I want to hit times of 4:50 and 2:10, as well as break the school record in 3200.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite memory about your association with this team?
– My favorite memory is of having a team Christmas party this past year. We built gingerbread houses and played hide and seek in the woods with four wheelers. It was a really fun night.

VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
– Abi Street has left the biggest impact on me. She was my first cheerleader and showed me how to celebrate your teammates well. She was always selfless, and I will forever look up to her for her kindness and positive mindset.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being a part of this team?
– My favorite part of being on this team is my teammates. They make every day at practice so fun, and I could not imagine doing this sport without them.

VYPE SPORTS: What clubs, community groups, or campus groups are you involved with and why?
– I am an officer for National Honor Society and a member of the Leadership Team at our school. I like organizing activities at the school and helping others to get more involved.

VYPE SPORTS: What accolades (Both any sport and any non-athletic activity) are you most proud of?
– I am most proud of getting 5th at state in cross country because it pushed me outside my comfort zone. I struggled in my conference and district meets, so placing that high was that much more rewarding.

VYPE SPORTS: What has this sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
– This sport has taught me that slow progress is the best progress, but I must build good habits to be successful. It’s the little things that matter most.

VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
– The best advice I have received is to put myself in the race. I need to take a chance. I can’t be so afraid of failing that I don’t try at all.

VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?
– I am inspired by my older brother Mason. He’s supported me in everything, and he’s shown me what it looks like to be tough, lead well, and take risks.
