Webb City’s Jaylee VanBecelaere – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Kyle Hickam State Farm

Stepping into her junior season, Jaylee VanBecelaere is embracing more than just her role as a volleyball player at Webb City High School—she’s stepping into leadership. “I’m hoping to take on a bigger leadership role this year,” she said. “I also want to push myself to improve in many different areas and help my team have a successful season.”

Offseason preparation has been intentional and focused. “We are really trying to break down every piece in the game to make sure we can run a smooth defense and offense,” VanBecelaere explained. “That’s been a big focus this summer.”

And the work is paying off. “I think we have all improved on communication and where to go when the ball is out of system,” she said. “Everyone is working really hard this summer, and we are getting comfortable in our rotations.”

Winning is nothing new to Webb City volleyball, but this season comes with a renewed hunger. “I think our biggest goals are to win districts for the 5th time in a row, and then go on to make it to State,” she said. “We have been so close to going the last two seasons! We are already pushing each other and focusing on every little detail.”

With a team full of experienced, connected players, VanBecelaere believes their biggest asset is adaptability. “I think our biggest strength is keeping the ball in system even when the play gets out of hand,” she said. “A lot of us have played together for the past 3 years, so we are confident in our roles and what to do.”

As a defensive specialist and outside hitter, VanBecelaere prepares herself both physically and mentally before every game. “The practice before a game I really try to focus on the things I have been struggling with,” she said. “If I’m worried about a certain skill, I talk to my coaches and try to get in some extra practice to feel confident.”

No matter the outcome, her mindset remains steady. “I try to be prepared for anything to happen and I focus on one point at a time,” she said. “If the point doesn’t go our way, I stay positive and move on to the next one.”

Jaylee VanBecelaere—junior, 5’6”, volleyball and track athlete—is building a legacy defined by resilience, team-first energy, and leadership. “I would love to be remembered as a good role model and leader,” she said.
