Webb City’s Alex Maturino – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Uplink

For Webb City senior Alex Maturino, softball is more than just a game — it’s been the foundation of lasting friendships and life lessons. “Being a student-athlete at Webb City has been a privilege to work alongside such great athletes,” Maturino said. “What I love most is the friendships I’ve made out of the sport. I’ve spent my whole life playing, and my best friends to this day are the girls I’ve played softball with.”

Now in her senior year, Maturino balances her studies and athletics with focus and passion. “I am a senior in high school,” she said. “My favorite subject is science.” Her curiosity in the classroom matches her commitment on the field, where she has spent more than a decade sharpening her skills. “I have been playing softball for 12 years and I’m a 3rd baseman and utility,” she explained.

Her dedication runs deep, but Maturino’s competitive spirit also comes with a bit of curiosity. “If I could play any other position on the field, I would want to be a pitcher.”

When it comes to matchups, a few games always stand out on the schedule. “I look forward to playing Neosho and Joplin because we’ve always had close games with them,” she said. “This year since we have a majority senior lineup we were excited to see how we would play against them.”

The dugout energy is a big part of what makes Webb City softball special. “The loudest girl in the dugout would probably be Addy Crane,” Maturino said. “She always has the best attitude and always makes the dugout hype.”

At the plate, Maturino’s approach is calm and calculated. “My approach to the plate is going up knowing I want the right side of the plate, so hitting anything middle out is what I’m looking for,” she said.

Laughter and leadership are never far away for this senior-heavy squad. “I would say the funniest on the team would be the three Sargent sisters — when they are all together it always ends in a huge laugh,” she said. “The most serious on the team would probably be Addie Burns.”

But when it comes to influence, Maturino doesn’t hesitate. “The biggest influence in my life has been my mom,” she said. “She’s always been there as my coach, my best friend, and my mom. She shows me every day that working hard gets you places. She is the best role model for all aspects of life.”

As her final season unfolds, Maturino’s legacy at Webb City is clear — a leader grounded in gratitude, friendship, and family.
